Before anything else

The part most driveway firms would rather you did not ask about

Everybody in this trade shows you photographs. Very few will put their money terms in front of you before you have even picked up the phone. Here are ours.

14 days

A cooling off period

Sign with us and you still have a fortnight to change your mind. Not a handshake, an actual cooling off period, written into the paperwork we give you.

Often no deposit

A deposit is not always needed

On plenty of jobs we do not ask for one at all. Where materials have to be ordered in we will explain exactly why, before you part with anything.

0 subcontractors

Our own team, on your drive

The people who quote the job are the people who build it. Nothing is passed to a gang we have never met, which is how standards slip and nobody answers the phone.

What we lay

Four surfaces, one standard underneath

Block paving, resin, tarmac and natural stone patios, domestic and commercial. Whichever finish you choose, the digging out, the sub-base and the edge restraints are done the same way, because that is the part nobody ever sees and the part that decides whether it lasts.

Block paving driveway being laid with edge courses and a channel drain, Darlington

Block Paving

Laid to pattern with a contrast border and the edges haunched in concrete, so the courses stay true and nothing creeps outward over the years.

Indian sandstone patio with brick walling and gravel border

Patios & Paving

Natural stone and porcelain slabs laid to a fall on a full mortar bed, with the walling, steps and edging built to match the house.

Resin bound driveway with a smooth seamless finish

Resin Bound

A seamless permeable surface trowelled over a solid base. No loose stone rattling into the road, no puddles standing on it, no weeds coming through.

Tarmac driveway laid and rolled with a kerb edge

Tarmac

Machine laid and rolled hot with a block or kerb edge to finish it. Still the most sensible way to cover a long drive properly.

Why that number is the one to look at

Forty four households, and not one of them marked us down

Plenty of firms average four and a half stars and are perfectly good. A straight 5.0 is different, because it means nobody has had the week where it went wrong: no missed start date, no mess left behind, no phone going unanswered once the money had cleared.

We would rather you read them yourself than take our word for it. Look us up on Google before you ring anybody, us included.

How we build it

Why ours does not sink

Almost every cracked, dipped, weed-split driveway in the North East failed for the same reason, and it is never the blocks. Somebody saved a day on the digging out.

Driveway under construction, edge blocks set and channel drain installed before the main paving
The build up, in order

Everything that matters happens before the surface goes down

Dig out to depth

The old surface and the soft ground beneath it come out and go on the wagon. Nothing gets raked to the side and buried under your new drive.

Sub-base, compacted in layers

Type 1 stone laid and whacked in layers rather than one thick dump that never properly consolidates. This is the part carrying your car for the next twenty years.

Edges and drainage first

Edge restraints haunched in concrete and the surface water given somewhere legal to go, with channel drains where the fall demands it, before a single block is laid.

Surface, joint, sweep, sign off

Laid, jointed or rolled, kiln dried sand vibrated in, the site swept and the muck taken away. Then we walk the finished job with you before the van moves.

We lay proper products, from proper suppliers

There is a large price gap between the paving on a builders merchant pallet and the ranges below, and it shows up around year five. We will price both honestly and let you choose.
